Weekday walk: Wednesday 30th October

20 of us and two dogs (Bess and Poppy) met in Dedham for Phil’s 6 miler. The weather was dull and overcast although unseasonably warm.

Most of us were frequent flyers, although this week there were a couple of potential new members from Colchester trying us out and a couple of occasional walkers, Richard and Glenda.

We set off across the fields, only to discover within a mile or so that there was a footpath diversion owing to repairs to the riverbank. Phil briefed us about the route change.

Walking across a farm field, I noted how dry the ground was, with no mud on our boots, unlike recent walks.

Shortly afterwards, we had an early break at Flatford, followed by another break at the Dedham playing field.

After walking up Dedham High Street, we returned across the meadows close to the river, which was also surprisingly dry.

We said our farewells in the car park and some of us repaired to the art centre for very well earned coffee, hot chocolate and cake. I have to say that the chocolate Jaffa cake was especially lush.

Interviewed after the walk, leader Phil said that he was happy with the friendly group and joked that he was delighted not to have lost anyone!

All in all, an excellent walk. Many thanks, Phil.
