Hither Horringer: Sunday 3rd November

Glen celebrated leading his 150th East Anglian walk in true IOG style with 13 of us enjoying apple cake kindly baked by our lovely Jo, who dished it out wrapped ready to be saved for lunch. Obviously, most of us ate it immediately!

The 10ish-mile stroll started on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, taking in Glen’s typical eclectic mix of urban sprawl, footpaths, alleyways and riverside walks.

We lunched on the green outside Horringer church, with a few walkers indulging in retail therapy at the local craft market.

The second half was more rural, with lots of autumnal colours and obligatory kicking of dry leaves.

Glen’s impeccable planning (luck?) surprised us with The Melting Pot hot-dessert truck offering fruit crumbles, cookie dough and ice cream mountains. A short stroll further brought us to The Linden Tree for yet more refreshment.

I’m fairly certain that most of us consumed more calories than we used on this walk, but hey, if we can’t do that on the Chair’s 150th anniversary, then when can we?
